A band bio once playfully referred to The Tubs from Cardiff as a “Celtic jangle boy band.” That wasn’t so much because their music evokes the boy bands of the ’90s or 2000s—with whom that term is so often associated—but because their debut album “Dead Meat” had an almost joyful, youthful spirit, and the album cover was something of an indie boy band dream shot.

Songs like “Wretched Lie,” “Dead Meat,” or “I Don’t Know How It Works” were a single, wonderful blessing of indie guitar melodies that could certainly be described with the word “jangle.” At a time when the focus in Wales and Ireland was primarily on dark post-punk, The Tubs were a very welcome counterpoint. This was also the view of media outlets with impeccable taste like Pitchfork and The Guardian—and Iggy Pop even played The Tubs on his radio show with glowing praise.

This December, The Tubs will finally get to present their new songs live in Berlin. Who knows, maybe The Tubs will even have some new material in store. They recently surprised their fans with the fantastic Metallica cover “Fade To Black,” so there might be more to come.
