On 18 July, you are cordially invited to a reading and launch of the 7th issue of Weiter Schreiben magazine, which collects texts on Syria after the fall of Assad, at Acud.

In the fourth issue of our series ‘Syria: Quo Vadis?’, we are celebrating the publication of the seventh issue of Weiter Schreiben magazine together with the literature portal Weiter Schreiben! The new edition is dedicated to Syria today – in the time after the ‘eternal’ Assad.

  • Readings will begin at 8 p.m. by Odai Al Zoubi, Dellair Yousef, Hanadi Zarka, Melika Foroutan and Ahmad Katlesh.
  • Starting at 9 p.m., there will be a DJ set by Munsef Turkmani | ACUD Club.
The euphoria that filled the first texts after his fall has evaporated. There is an awareness of the past, of the hundreds of thousands of disappeared, the traces of massive destruction and the fear of the unknown.

But there is also hope for a chance – the greatest in Syria's history since its independence. Curated by Dima Albitar Kalaji, this issue of the magazine brings together texts by authors who live in Syria or have returned there, but also by those who have not yet had the opportunity to return.

‘I recognised the streets, the walls, the stones and the appearance of the people. I recognised myself.’ – Dellair Youssef

Readings, live music & DJ set | When we return – Texts on Syria | Magazine launch in cooperation with Weiter Schreiben

The event is part of the Goethe-Institut's Syria: Quo Vadis?’ series in exile. Since early 2025, this series has been creating space at the Berlin Kunsthaus Acud for several evenings to shed light on central questions of identity, memory, reappraisal and future prospects for Syria after the fall of the Assad regime. Voices from the Syrian diaspora are heard, highlighting the challenges, perspectives and visions that concern them in relation to their old homeland.
