Discussion & Workshop
All residents of the Berlin Wall Memorial are invited to share their personal memories and stories about the Berlin Wall over coffee, tea, and cake.
Together, everyone will look through the photo album of Bernauer Straße: On August 13, 1961, what was once an ordinary residential street became a divided neighborhood. Houses were demolished, families separated, and gradually a wide border strip was erected. The Wall thus profoundly changed the daily lives of the people.
Perhaps you lived in Wedding and walked along Bernauer Straße every day? Or did you attend the Ernst Reuter School? Or did you live in East Berlin overlooking the border strip? What memories do you and your families have of the divided city, the fall of the Wall, and the years that followed?
We would like to discuss these memories with you. Simply come to our storytelling café in the Berlin Wall Memorial Visitor Center. You are welcome to bring your own photos.
This event is part of the Day of Democracy History 2026.
