Theater director and composer Simon Steen-Andersen, together with choreographers László Sandig and Wibke Storkan, as well as the youth dance company of Sasha Waltz & Guests, spent three weeks exploring the Academy of Arts on Hanseatenweg.

The focus was on the building’s hidden sounds and history—in search of direct connections between space, movement, and music.
What happens when you challenge a group of young dancers to climb a building that’s tilted on its side—or turned upside down? Or when they play with a theater’s stage technology as if it were an oversized musical instrument, or dance with a directional microphone to create the soundtrack for their own choreography?
Answers to these questions are provided by the new site-specific performance, which transforms the Academy of Arts building itself into a living instrument.
The performances will take place on July 18 and 19.
