What does it mean to truly see? This choral-symphonic concert by the Ölberg Choir embarks on a unique quest – exploring the space between light and darkness, sound and silence, external perception and inner understanding.
At its heart is Louis Vierne's Messe solennelle in an arrangement for chamber orchestra and organ. Born almost blind and later completely blind, Vierne created music of overwhelming richness and inner radiance.
The program is complemented by Francis Poulenc's opulent Concerto in G minor for Organ, Strings, and Timpani. A devout Catholic and openly gay artist, Poulenc navigated between social invisibility and personal expression – a tension that resonates powerfully in his music.
Jean Langlais, blind since early childhood, also opens up a sound world with Caritas Christi, making listening beyond the visible tangible. The Ölberg Choir and the Concerto Kreuzberg Chamber Orchestra perform. The organ will be played and conducted by Christoph Ostendorf in the Poulenc arrangement; the overall direction is by Johannes Weber. This evening also marks a special new beginning: it is Johannes Weber's inaugural concert as the new director of the Ölberg Choir and the Kreuzberg Evangelical Church.
A concert of great opulence and radiance – and an invitation to see with your heart.
