The casemates of the citadel form one of the largest winter habitats for bats in Europe. For this reason, they are only accessible to visitors for three months of the year. The vaulted corridors with their thick walls were originally built for defensive purposes.
When visiting the casemates of the Bastion König, you will not only explore one of the oldest parts of the citadel, which is largely preserved in its original state, but also a cinematically interesting location, including where Edgar Wallace's The Witcher was filmed in 1964.
