paper positions berlin will take place for the seventh time during Gallery Weekend Berlin, this year again in the impressive atrium of the former telegraph office in Berlin-Mitte.

Drawings, collages, silhouettes, texts, photographs, artists' books and objects will be on display in an open exhibition format.

The theme of drawing and the medium of paper with all its specific characteristics, its fragility and its enormous versatility are the focus of the exhibition concept of papaer positions, which is entirely tailored to the mostly sensitive exhibits.

Winner of the paper positions award: Maija Kurševa

This year's exhibition will feature a solo presentation by artist Maija Kurševa (b. 1981) from the MĀKSLA XO Gallery in Riga, who won the paper positions award last year.

Among other media, drawing has always been the basis for the ideas of artist Maija Kurševa. Her series "Black Lines" consists of spatial drawings and explores the question of how to represent a flow of thoughts without using language. Her line, the metaphorical red thread, is made visible. It sweeps across the paper, held in place only in a few places by colored brushstrokes.

Important building in the postal and industrial history of Berlin as an event location

At the end of the 19th century, more than 300 telegraphs were in the hall, architecturally reminiscent of the Venetian Renaissance, with which the building complex was extended in 1878 as part of the unification of post and telegraphy to form the Imperial Main Telegraph Office.Even after the renovation, the original ceiling construction with its glass ceiling supported by cast-iron pillars has been preserved and gives the spacious room with bright daylight an airy and relaxed salon-like atmosphere.

The trade fair location is located in the heart of historic Berlin, amidst the art spots Museum Island and Gendarmenmarkt as well as the galleries and art collections not far from the Friedrichswerder Church built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel.
