Traces of Colonial Past at the Dahlem Research Campus
The Dahlem Research Campus invites you to the opening of the exhibition "Currents - Charlotte Ming & Yangkun Shi" on October 17, 2025.
Starting at 6 pm, experience the collaborative work of Berlin journalist Charlotte Ming and photographer Yangkun Shi from Shanghai, who use photography, video, writing and archive materials to trace the hidden history of German colonialism in China and make its traces from Qingdao to Berlin impressively visible.
The artists interweave personal and historical perspectives, question the colonial gaze and open up new perspectives on migration, memory and local conflicts - as they are also present in the immediate vicinity of the research campus on Takustraße, Lansstraße and Iltisstraße. Visitors are invited to join the artists in discussing the role of art and science in coming to terms with the colonial past and its influence on today's migration discourses.
The exhibition was commissioned by Dekoloniale Erinnerungskultur in der Stadt and is funded by the Bezirkskulturfonds/Unterfonds zur Aufarbeitung der Kolonialgeschichte.
Registration is requested for better planning.
Admission free.
