Learning to Shape the Future
Speculative design uses the method of futures prototyping to create visual and physical designs of possible future scenarios. These open up new perspectives, spark debate, and help participants develop their own visions. These methods make it possible to think playfully about potential developments—and to actively participate in shaping the future.
Participants focus on the relationship between humans and machines, because technology today is much more than just a tool: it is part of everyday life, influencing the way we think and live together. People talk to machines, trust their decisions, and allow them to guide and advise them. Sometimes they get the impression that machines even understand people on an emotional level. These interactions with technology are changing how people work, feel, and perceive themselves. At the same time, everyone asks themselves: What is there to gain—and to lose? And how do they want to shape their future with technology?
In this workshop, participants will look ahead together:
-> How do they want to coexist with technology?
-> Which tasks should machines take on, and which should remain with us humans?
-> How are our bodies, abilities, and self-image changing as a result of technology?
-> What new forms of closeness, interaction, and relationship between humans and machines are emerging?

-> The Berlin Ideas Lab is a lab for transformational design. The team supports organizations in the design process of sustainable product and service innovations as well as desirable visions of the future using methods from futures studies, design thinking, and visual storytelling.
