Work and dreams of Ukrainian journalists
In the exhibition "The Only Material," Ukrainian journalists talk about their profession, their original goals, and how the war has changed their work and perspectives.
What motivates people to become journalists?
For this exhibition, the European Center for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) asked Ukrainian media professionals about their motivations. Many initially focused on other topics: the environment, science, equality, or social justice. But with the war, reporting on destruction, resistance, and truth took center stage.
The exhibition showcases the development of Ukrainian journalism, highlights the resilience and commitment of those involved, and illustrates how they stand up for transparency and democratic values even under the most difficult conditions. Their stories represent courage, hope, and a global commitment to press freedom.
All featured journalists are supported by the "Voices of Ukraine" program.
Accompanying the exhibition, the museum presents the exhibition "NEWS – NEWS," which reflects on the relationship with the media, traces historical developments, and offers a glimpse behind the scenes of journalistic work.
"Voices of Ukraine" is part of the Hannah Arendt Initiative and is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. The ECPMF is implementing the program together with partners such as the Public Interest Journalism Lab, Lviv Media Forum, Fix Media Foundation, Women in Media, and other committed organizations.
