10 Artists | 10 Walls | Small-Scale Works
At the same time, it takes up an idea that is frequently overlooked in the art world: Many collections begin with a small work. It is not uncommon for it to be a single painting that one discovers by chance and simply cannot let go of. “NOPE – does size matter?” is therefore also an invitation to discover, compare, and collect.
Ten artists present works exclusively up to a maximum size of 50 × 40 cm. Painting, photography, works on paper, sculpture, and object art come together in a presentation that deliberately evokes the atmosphere of an art fair. Each artist is given their own wall—like a small exhibition booth within the gallery. In this way, each wall becomes a self-contained exhibition space in miniature.
Featuring works by Clara Cousineau, Daniela Finke, Daniel & Geo Fuchs, Dale Grant, Esther Gronenborn, Marco Kaufmann, Myrta Köhler, Bo Larsen, Christoph Uepping, and Martin A. Völker, the exhibition brings together international and Berlin-based artists who engage in very different ways with perception, memory, transience, materiality, pop culture, and transformation.
The small format is not seen as a limitation, but rather as a condensation. Visual ideas, gestures, and stories are concentrated within a confined space, and it is precisely this that allows them to unfold with a special intensity. Visitors are invited to stroll from wall to wall, discover different artistic styles, and experience the works in direct comparison.
All works can be purchased directly from the exhibition and taken home—ideally, even in a suitcase. In this way, “NOPE – does size matter?” combines the openness of a summer exhibition with the dynamism of an art fair and is aimed equally at experienced collectors, art enthusiasts, and visitors to the city.
