
As Christina Treutlein claims to prove in her dissertation on the architect Carl-Hermann Rudloff, Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky was far less involved in the creation of the legendary New Frankfurt kitchen than previously assumed.
Was the contemporary attribution of authorship to the architect primarily intended to win over the residents of the new housing estates to the Taylorized standard kitchen? Which of her Viennese experiences did/could she have contributed? Aren't modern design processes always collective?
Schütte-Lihotzky never wanted to be reduced to the kitchen. Why didn't she clarify the history of its creation herself? will the character of the Frankfurt Kitchen change if the authorship now has to be redefined?
