An apocalyptic chamber play by suite42

A bare room, two men, a chair. A glaring light, two doors, and countless questions. Where do these two come from? How do they both fit on the chair? And what do the doors actually hide? Whether locked in or shut out, they dance on an inner volcano.

Human history is ingrained in our protagonists’ bones; fragments of their blissful memories flash by, but the future hangs heavy in the air.

What to do? Seize power, simply carry on as before, or hope for a solution behind every sentence?

Today, here and now, these two figures happen to be stuck together in a liminal world full of panic and euphoria: like two washed-up heroes—Hamlet and Debuisson—they are still waiting for Godot and sharing this never-ending shared (nightmare).

Eventually, however, they awaken in a possible future and a completely new era with unimagined possibilities.

In 2018–2019, an international collaboration took place between suite42 Berlin, the ZOUKAK Theatre Company Beirut, and the Deutsches SchauSpielHaus Hamburg, resulting in two productions that explored the possibility of a jointly shaped future.

In 2023, in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the failed revolution, the economic crisis, and the massive explosion in Beirut, this play was reimagined by suite42 in collaboration with Zoukak in Beirut.
