
Summer at the Kulturforum Berlin: Six weeks of art starting on 12 July 2025
During the summer holidays, the Kulturforum and the Museum of Photography become a meeting place for curious minds of all ages.
Whether art, design, books or drawings – the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Picture Gallery, the Art Library, the Kupferstichkabinett and the Museum of Photography invite you to enjoy a varied programme: one-day or multi-day workshops, hands-on activities for the whole family.
There is room for ideas, exchange and new perspectives – in the middle of the city, in the middle of summer.

Picture Gallery
Holidays with Flora
Tue – Thu / 5 August – 7 August 2025 / 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Flowers and grasses are sprouting everywhere. What significance do they have in the paintings of the Picture Gallery? You will learn about mythological figures of nature and portray yourself as one. Using drawing and collage, you will create new worlds of flowers.

Art Library
Bombastic printing!
Tues–Thurs / 19–21 August 2025 / 11 a.m.–3 p.m.
What do fireworks and printmaking have in common? Find out in this holiday workshop. Gather ideas in the study room of the Art Library and draw inspiration from original prints. Then get to work on your own large-format print of fireworks, for example as a linocut.

Wanderlust

Let's get going – we're travelling through the Picture Gallery! We'll see Venice and the coast of Holland, meet English lords and even Europe herself. Many painters also travelled far and wide: Italy in particular was the country of their dreams. You'll draw and paint your dream landscapes and create a travel journal.

A skirt for me (DIY)
Wed – Fri / 13 – 15 August 2025 / 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
In this workshop, you will sew your own wrap skirt. In the exhibition, you will discover skirts and dresses by famous fashion designers and then use an original pattern to design your own skirt. You can choose the fabric yourself. Please bring your own fabric with you.

Of treasures and lions

In the Museum of Decorative Arts, you can discover treasures made of gold and silver: lions and elephants, chalices and other vessels. Some objects feature family crests, which indicate their former owners. Go on a search together and be inspired by your family crests or mythical creatures, which you can then design and print. The activity starts every hour and lasts 120 minutes.

Copy Monster

The devil is in the details! Hieronymus Bosch was the painter of monsters and demons. His paintings were often copied, for example by Lucas Cranach. Inspired by the pictures, you will create your own monsters. Various reproduction techniques will be used, such as tracing with ink and plastic film, carbon paper and alienating copies.

Colour workshop

The paintings in the Picture Gallery tell stories in colour. What creative or technical tricks can you learn from the Old Masters, and what new ones can you invent? You will experiment with pigments, watercolours and pastels.

In the fashion gallery of the Museum of Decorative Arts, you can discover fashion design from three centuries. The designs were based on fashion drawings. How is a fashion drawing created and what needs to be considered? Be inspired by famous fashion designers and learn how a fashion drawing is composed.

Fashion Fusion: Pattern mix meets photography
In our open studio, you can playfully try out new approaches to fashion photography. You will alter templates and design fashion through pattern drawings or collages, which will then be photographed. The result is a completely new type of fashion photography.

Explore fashion from the 1950s to the 1990s in the exhibition, from Berlin chic to the American look. Which cuts, colours and patterns were popular? And how is this conveyed in Rico Puhlmann's fashion photographs? Be inspired and create your own designs with photography, colour, paper and fabric. Whether brightly coloured, sporty, dreamy or classic – anything is possible here.
