As a child in care, Monika Haeger was indoctrinated into the socialist ideology; later, as a loyal GDR citizen and Stasi agent, she spied on an important East Berlin women’s group, posing as a close friend of the civil rights activist Bärbel Bohley.

For the women, this usually had devastating consequences. Arrests, interrogations and even expulsion from the GDR followed.
Drawing on the memoirs of Monika Haeger (1945–2006), the play recounts the darkest chapter in East German history. Through the voices of the victims, it also addresses the early persecutions in the Soviet Occupation Zone, including its special camps, the Hoheneck women’s prison, those who died at the Wall, and the notorious Torgau Youth Labour Camp.
