In the spirit of the quote, “In relation, every subject is an object and every object is a subject” (Edouard Glissant), the two curators of the exhibition Making Kin invite you to engage with the relational worldview of the twelve artists represented and to weave your own connections:

The exhibition brings together works by Catherine Blackburn, Aziza Kadyri, Mae-ling Lokko, Meryl McMaster, Caroline Monnet, Katja Novitskova, Soe Yu Nwe, Odun Orimolade, Judith Raum, Cara Romero, Zina Saro-Wiwa, and Haegue Yang. Their different practices are united by the understanding that we are all woven into a dynamic network of relationships: with other people, animals, plants, spirit beings, the cosmos—but also with our office chair.

The exhibition was curated by: Kerstin Pinther, Curator for Modern and Contemporary Art in Global Context & Ute Marxreiter, Research Associate for Education and Outreach, Ethnologisches Museum and Museum für Asiatische Kunst, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz.

Additional information

Is the Humboldt Forum a good place to visit when it’s raining?

Yes, the Humboldt Forum is ideal for a visit when it’s raining. Most of the building is indoors and offers a wide range of activities that can be enjoyed regardless of the weather.

Comfortable in bad weather

Spacious indoor areas: The exhibitions, event spaces, restaurants and shops are mostly indoors. You can spend several hours in the building without having to go outside.

Modern architecture: Despite the baroque palace façade, the interior is modern, bright and well-air-conditioned – ideal for escaping the rain.

Free areas: Many exhibitions are free to visit, making a spontaneous visit on a rainy day particularly appealing.

Plenty to see – even without outdoor areas

Permanent and temporary exhibitions on art, culture, science and history from around the world.

Events, lectures and performances that take place regularly.

Museum visits (including the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art) with enough depth to warrant longer stays.

Conclusion

The Humboldt Forum is very well suited to rainy days. Anyone primarily interested in exhibitions, culture and knowledge will find little to miss. In good weather, the outdoor area is also worth a visit – but the heart of the building functions superbly regardless of the weather.
