An evening dedicated to love

Discover the many facets of love at this year's Long Night of Museums! Under the motto ‘Love’, a varied programme awaits you, highlighting different aspects of this important topic. Learn more about practical love in the form of social welfare work. 



Immerse yourself in the world of romantic love and experience how it has changed over time. Discover the spiritual side of love, divine devotion and religious connection. Be inspired by our diverse programme and find out how love in various forms enriches and connects our lives.

Short guided tours of the permanent exhibition (approx. 20 min.)

READING: ‘Only those who have fought through marriage can speak of it, only the veteran who points to the scars’ (Theodor Fontane, ‘Frau Jenny Treibel’)
LOCATION: Georges Casalis Hall


Gotthard Erler, editor of the book "Poets' wives are always like that. Eine Autobiographie Emilie Fontanes in ihren Briefen" (in collaboration with Christine Hehle), reads Fontane's poems to his wife Emilie and recounts the biographical events that are reflected in Fontane's mostly amusing verses. A love story captured in poetry.


Three short readings, each on the hour. After each reading, Gotthard Erler will sign a copy of his book at the book table. 
The event will be held in German.

10 p.m. to approx. 11 p.m.
‘Your love is more delicious than wine’
Biblical love songs from the Song of Songs read aloud – with music... KMD Kilian Nauhaus at the organ.

The reading ends with a blessing for lovers.
LOCATION: French Friedrichstadt Church, church hall
The event will be held in German, with music.


After the events, we invite you to enjoy some light refreshments in our courtyard.



With a ticket for the Long Night of Museums, guests can visit the viewing platform of the French Cathedral for an additional €3.50.
