Lenio Kaklea

“Les Oiseaux” by Lenio Kaklea invites us to view the world from the perspective of birds. Featuring seven hybrid figures and a soundscape of bird calls, the piece explores the close connection between nature and society and the vulnerability of our ecosystem.

A fascination with birds has run through Western dance history since the early ballets. But what would a choreography look like that explores the world from their perspective, rather than merely observing it?

Starting from this question, choreographer Lenio Kaklea creates a fantastical cosmos populated by seven hybrid beings and a flying object. Embedded in a hypnotic soundscape of bird calls, the figures perform a dazzling dance that oscillates between competition and play.

“Les Oiseaux” is a fable about the fragility of the ecosystem, in which the boundaries between nature and society are increasingly blurred.
