lecture program
Alongside the pop-up-exhibition "To the Core", the Mies van der Rohe Haus invites visitors to four events exploring the theme of materiality from different perspectives.
The opening event on 19 October 2025 at 2 PM focuses on the exhibited objects and expands on the theme “Architecture as Stage.” Oliver Klimpel, Head of the Curatorial Workshop at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, together with the designers Carlo Siegfried and Jan Kiesswetter, will discuss the concept and design of the installation. The conversation will highlight connections to historical exhibition designs of the Bauhaus and to the work of Mies van der Rohe.
On 24 October 2025 at 6 PM, Magdalena Tebel (University of Halle) will give a lecture entitled “A Skyscraper Clad in Architectural Bronze,” exploring the material choices behind Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s and Philip Johnson’s New York Seagram Building through contemporary sources.
On 6 November 2025 at 6 PM, Simone Faust takes the audience on a documentary journey through the restoration of the Mies van der Rohe Haus between 2000 and 2002.
Finally, on 9 November 2025 at 2 PM, Torsten Blume and Daniel Rapoport will focus on the Bauhaus in the “Age of Steel” and discuss the role of metals in teaching and workshop practice.
In addition, the interactive workshop “Bauhaus aktiv” will take place on 19 October and 9 November from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. Designed for children, young people, and adults, the workshop offers a playful and experimental approach to the Bauhaus – inviting participants to explore its ideas individually, at their own pace, and to become creatively active themselves.
