The idea is simple: glass bowls lined up on an axis are set in rotation by using a pedal and touched at the edge with moistened fingers to create a sound. However, the effect of the so-called glass harmonica is stunning.

In his work “Armonica” (2007), Widmann combines the glass harmonica with tonal partners such as an accordion and a “harmonica group” consisting of piano, celesta, harp, glockenspiel and crotales (antique cymbals).
