Panel Discussion as Part of the Paradoxes of Democracy Series (in German)
Since 7 October 2023, and the antisemitic manifestations it sparked, not least in the cultural and academic world, the conditions for Jewish life and the prospects for a future in Germany have changed. The electoral success of the far-right populist political party AfD has also contributed to this uncertainty. How do Jews in Germany view these developments?
How do they view the possible participation of elected, far-right actors in decisions in state parliaments, in the Bundestag or in the boards of trustees of public institutions? How is a future in Germany conceivable under these aspects – and can Israel still be considered a safe alternative after October 7?
In discussion:
Lena Gorelik, journalist and writer
Hanna Veiler, publicist and chairwoman of the Jewish Student Union of Germany
