For four decades, the Stasi was the shadow that secured the SED's rule. But in 1990, courageous citizens rose up and saved the secret documents from destruction, transforming Mielke's headquarters into a place of knowledge. Today, the Stasi Records Archive houses 111 kilometers of files that reveal the dark history.
