In cooperation with the Federal Foundation for Building Culture. As part of the work on the Building Culture Report on Design, the focus will be on design standards in the context of heritage, existing buildings, and the future.
The discussion about how to deal with brutalist buildings and their cultural value invites critical reflection – after all, in addition to functionality, it is also about the social, emotional, and health-related quality of our living spaces.
First, insights into the ongoing work process for the Building Culture Report will be provided and the findings obtained so far will be discussed.
This will be followed by a series of presentations and dialogues that will examine the architectural and cultural significance of Brutalism against the backdrop of the conflict between demolition and preservation. The discussion will focus on how the characteristic visual and cultural signature of this era can be preserved while at the same time adapting it to modern usage requirements, for example with regard to renovation and energy efficiency.
