Solidarity reading marathon
The tak Theater is organizing a reading stage where artists associated with the theater will lend their voices to authors from Gaza, and guests are also invited to read a contribution.
The texts from 2010 and autumn 2024 will be read over a period of approximately six hours, in German, English, and Arabic, each with projected translation. A live broadcast to the ASHTAR Theater will also take place throughout the day.
The reading marathon will be accompanied by music, informational islands, culinary offerings, and childcare.
The stories range from dreams of the post-war future, which dominate the 2010 texts, to narratives of overwhelming loss in the 2024 texts: the loss of people, family, homes, and time, and the abandonment of all dreams for the future. They describe very different everyday routines, as well as processes of growing up and reflections on how people change in such a crisis.
The Gaza Monologues of 2010 were a response to the war from December 2008 to January 2009, which claimed 1,380 lives in 22 days, including 431 children, and left many injured. The children's monologues were subsequently performed in 80 cities in 40 countries and in 18 languages.
Some of these authors, then already young adults, wrote again after the war in Gaza in the summer of 2014, when 538 of the 2,254 dead were children, and another 54,000 children were displaced from their homes. The figures from the fall of 2024 are well known. Against this backdrop, the same people, now adults, once again describe their experiences of the war.
