Freely adapted from Arthur Schnitzler by Leonie Böhm and Julia Riedler
Else is spending the summer at an upscale health resort when she receives an express letter: Her father is deeply in debt, and she is told to borrow money from Dorsday, an art dealer much older than she is, in order to preserve the family’s reputation. But Dorsday sets a condition: Else will only receive the money she needs if she poses naked for him for fifteen minutes.
In her gripping adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s novella “Fräulein Else,” Leonie Böhm, together with Julia Riedler, turns Else’s inner monologue outward and transforms it into a stunning dialogue with the audience. With wit, spontaneity, and multifaceted depth, Riedler delivers a captivating solo performance that exposes double standards and declares war on patriarchal power structures.
Guest performance by the Volkstheater Wien as part of the Theatertreffen at the Berliner Festspiele.
