No institution in the world can show the musical work of Ludwig van Beethoven in its pure form - in his handwriting - in such quality and abundance as the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin.

Beethoven's symphonies nos. 4, 5, 8 and 9, his piano concertos 1 - 3 and 5, the Missa solemnis, the opera Leonore/Fidelio, numerous arrangements of folk songs and musical sketches are kept in Berlin.

The exhibition traces the path of the valuable autographs to Berlin, brings to life his involvement with the 9th Symphony, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and with his only opera Fidelio. In his study you can look >over Beethoven's shoulder<, a graphic novel shows a children's day of Beethoven's life in magnificent pictures, and the accompanying programme explains further aspects of his life and work. An accompanying volume permanently documents the exhibition, which has never before existed in such breadth and will never exist in the foreseeable future.
