Kästner’s classic, a fabulous Berlin tale and the most successful children’s mystery story of all time, returns to the stage. It’s about the strength of children and their capacity for solidarity: Together, we can move mountains!

Sinem Altan, winner of the 2015 European Composer Prize, serves as musical director.

For the first time, Emil Tischbein is allowed to travel to Berlin on his own. His clever cousin Pony Hütchen and his grandmother wait for him in vain at the Friedrichstraße station. Because Emil has already plunged into an exciting chase. Across the big city, always on the heels of the bully Grundeis, who stole his money on the train. Luckily, he soon gets help: from Gustav with the horn and his boys.

The thrilling story becomes a musical theater celebration:

Ten performers take the stage through scenic songs, choral recitation, and body percussion, playing live instruments including the cello, violin, accordion, and charango (a Bolivian stringed instrument), as well as the percussion instruments urdu, djembe, and darbuka.
