In his autobiography, actor, director, and playwright Manfred Karge, born in Brandenburg an der Havel in 1938, recounts notable and almost forgotten figures from politics, art, and culture in both East and West Berlin. He was one of the leading figures in the theater scene, first in East Berlin and later in the West. For example, with his productions at the Berliner Ensemble and the Volksbühne, he shaped Berlin's cultural life in the 1960s and 1970s.
