The participating artists pursue different approaches: Mark Hellmann and Claire Kaufmann work with photography, relying on precise observation and a reduced visual language in which light and composition play a central role. In contrast are the painterly works of Angelika Richter and Nina Hainmüller, which are characterized by experimental and open processes. Here, pictorial spaces emerge less through planning than through a gestural handling of color and material.
Franck Schmidt-Husson complements these positions with collages in which fragmented elements of reality are reassembled. The layering of different materials thus becomes an integral part of the works’ content.
Overall, “EDITION 5” is conceived not merely as a presentation of individual works, but as an exploration of artistic strategies that navigate the tension between control and chance, between documentary precision and expressive design. The exhibition highlights diverse approaches through which reality is reflected upon, transformed, and reinterpreted within the artistic process.
