Even today, the Stasi's foreign intelligence activities (Main Administration A) still enjoy a certain aura. Former employees of the Main Administration A, in particular, cultivated the image of the "best secret service in the world" in publications and emphasized that they had nothing to do with the surveillance of their own population.

This was possible primarily because the majority of the Main Administration A's documents were destroyed – not secretly like many other Stasi documents in the fall of 1989, but officially in the spring of 1990 with the consent of those dissolving the Stasi.
Following the tour, you can visit the sample file collection of the Stasi Records Archive and submit a request for file inspection on site.
