Site tour with project manager Demir Arslantepe, SPSG
Completed in 1841 by Albert Dietrich Schadow, modeled after Italian designs, the villa served as a widow's residence for Princess Liegnitz after the death of her husband, Frederick William III. She lived there until 1873; subsequently, it was used by various members of the Prussian court, and from 1908 by Prince August Wilhelm of Prussia.
After 1949, the building was used by the Prussian Teacher Training College, and from 2004 to 2016, it housed offices of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg. Most recently, all parts of the building were in dire need of renovation. Since 2019, the villa has been undergoing comprehensive restoration. Upon completion this year, the foundation's general directorate and administration will move in, creating approximately 70 jobs.
During a site tour, project manager Demir Arslantepe opens the doors of the nearly completed villa and provides information about the concept, challenges, and progress of the restoration project.
