Deutsche Welle and the Beethovenfest are putting the spotlight on Georgia

The campus concert begins at 7.00 pm with the discussion panel ‘Democracy under pressure? The situation for cultural and media professionals in Georgia’.

Guests from the worlds of culture and media will discuss current developments in the country, as well as the importance of artistic freedom, independent media and social dialogue.

Georgia has been marked by political tensions and social debates for months.

Issues such as democratic participation, media freedom and cultural self-determination are of concern to many people in the country. The discussion will address these topics and provide the thematic framework for the concert that follows.

“Free media and independent art create spaces for social dialogue. With this event, we aim to highlight different perspectives on current developments in Georgia.”

Participants in the discussion include Dudana Mazmanishvili, Counsellor at the Georgian Embassy in Berlin, a Georgian journalist and a Georgian cultural figure living in exile.

Jochen Rosenkranz will moderate the discussion.

The musical highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of a new work by the 17-year-old Georgian composer and pianist Tsotne Zedginidze, who will perform as a soloist on the piano.

Together with members of the Federal Youth Orchestra and young artists from Georgia, the Campus Concert fosters musical encounters across national borders.

It is aimed at music lovers as well as people interested in international politics, democracy and the media.

The project builds a bridge between the concert hall and social discourse, offering a multifaceted perspective on Georgia and its cultural scene.
