In her lecture, award-winning literary translator Kirsten Brandt will introduce Catalan history and culture. Here, the audience will learn how cultural identity is connected to language, why the 20th century was so volatile for Catalan culture, and what defines Catalonia today.
Kirsten Brandt has recently translated primarily novels from Catalan, such as Montserrat Roig's Barcelona Trilogy – together with Ursula Bachhausen. Language, culture, and feminism play a key role in these novels.
