A task for the "IBA 34/37 Re-Use City and Metropolis"
The Deutscher Werkbund Berlin (DWB) invites you to a multi-part public discussion series to discuss topics and spaces of the IBA'34/37 planned by the Berlin Senate together with experts from the fields of urban planning, architecture, politics, culture and civil society. All DWB members and guests are invited to take an active part in the debate.
The state of Berlin intends to prepare an International Building Exhibition in the Berlin metropolitan region and, if possible, in cooperation with Brandenburg. It will focus on the sustainable transformation of towns and cities under the premise of "consistent development of existing buildings, reuse, circular construction". It aims to use a new, regional redevelopment agenda to shape localities, districts and neighborhoods in Berlin and possibly also in Brandenburg in an innovative and integrative way and to increase social participation.
In view of the rising demand for affordable housing in the face of a further decline in supply, limited state funding and a lack of political will, increasing gentrification, segregation, isolation and discrimination, especially against (new) migrants, in short: in view of the increasingly deteriorating housing supply for broad sections of the population, especially the disadvantaged groups, this initiative aims to promote the development of affordable housing in Berlin.
This event aims to discuss the question of whether the IBA'34/37 can help to set the course for a sustainable paradigm shift in housing provision and realize new residential quarters and socially stable neighbourhoods with integrating infrastructures and housing offers for refugee households, migrants, students, single parents, homeless and homeless people. It also wants to explore whether international experience in metropolitan regions can provide pointers for the Berlin metropolitan area.
