A narrative performance by Meike Rötzer to mark the 150th anniversary of Thomas Mann's birth
When Thomas Mann began writing his family saga at the age of 22, he could not have imagined that just a few years after its publication he would receive the Nobel Prize for his debut work. The sensation it caused around the world also caused a stir in his hometown of Lübeck: citizens nervously checked the list borrowed from a bookstore: am I in it? Above all: How?
Today, we can take a much more relaxed view of the imperceptible decline of an upper-class family over four generations. And before our eyes, a world sinks into oblivion with all its worries, hardships, and protagonists hilariously entangled in moral concepts.
Actress Meike Rötzer conjures up theater for the ears with her extraordinary form of storytelling, offering the audience virtuoso new approaches to world literature.
She is accompanied musically on the grand piano by renowned pianist and keyboardist Jacob Greenberg.
