Created by the human rights organization EQUAL PostOst in collaboration with curator Anna Narinskaya, the exhibition features seven black boxes—spaces of confinement and suppression—that explore key aspects of queer life under threat: censorship, imprisonment, torture, denunciation, trans persecution, and the classification of queerness as “extremism.”
The exhibition illustrates how anti-LGBTIQ repression has become part of Russian state ideology—especially since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022—and how this dangerous trend is spreading globally, influencing politics in neighboring countries, the U.S., and across the EU.
“Boxed” is accompanied by a public program, including the first open screening in Germany of the Oscar-shortlisted documentary film Queendom.
