To mark the 120th anniversary of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's birth, a song oratorio will be performed, interpreted by two choirs, narrators, and instrumentalists.
The theologian and resistance fighter against National Socialism speaks for himself: His life story is traced through quotations, letters, and narrative passages, and powerfully realized through song. The texts, compiled by Pastor Viola Türk, combine historical accounts with Bonhoeffer's reflections, quotations, and letters.
Matthias Nagel's composition unfolds a wide stylistic range – from Gregorian chants and chorales to classical forms, protest songs, and pop ballads. Free improvisations by the instrumentalists and jazzy timbres trace the various stages of Bonhoeffer's life and lend the work additional expressiveness.
Performers: Choirs of the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Parish, Berlin-Lankwitz; Conductor and piano: Jana Czekanowski-Frankmar; Speakers: Horst Theißen-Körner and Viola Türk; Saxophone: Sebastian Bailey; Double bass: Lisa Hoppe; Drums: Wolfgang Eger
