A special competition is on the agenda at the Mariendorf trotting track: the Buddenbrock Race.

This event is a classic in German sulky racing and has been held since 1901. The race is considered the big dress rehearsal for the Derby Meeting, which will also take place in Mariendorf from 9 to 24 August.

The best horses and drivers

The race is held in two heats, divided according to the gender of the horses. It has a total prize fund of 37,500 euros. For sulky drivers travelling from all over Europe, there is a lot of money at stake, and since many other important races are taking place on the same day at the Mariendorf track, the total prize money distributed to the winners and runners-up amounts to over 90,000 euros! It is therefore no surprise that only the best horses and drivers will be competing on the Tempelhof track.

Fun for the whole family

Of course, there will be plenty of food and drink available for spectators on the day. Visitors can choose from several catering options at the track. For example, the racecourse restaurant with its panoramic view, the popular tea house or the stable casino, furnished in elegant Old English style. There will also be lots of colourful activities for the youngest guests, such as face painting, bouncy castles and pony rides – all free of charge!
