City tour with Michael Bienert (in German)
"Berlin journalists were addicted to their neighborhood," wrote columnist Walther Kiaulehn in retrospect. The editorial offices in the newspaper district provided a livelihood for numerous guests of the Romanisches Café, such as Erich Kästner, Joseph Roth, Vicky Baum, and Gabriele Tergit. During the revolutionary turmoil of 1918/19, the newspaper district was one of the most fiercely contested neighborhoods in Berlin. But Nazi propaganda also sounded the attack on the republic there long before 1933.
