What a career! For 14 years, Brett Dean played viola with the Berlin Philharmonic—then he embarked on a highly successful career as a composer.

Now Brett Dean returns to his former orchestra as Composer in Residence. To kick off his residency, Brett Dean himself takes the podium to present a program rich in sound and emotion.

In his *Conversations with Schumann*, he explores the complex inner life of the Romantic composer; *And once I played Ophelia* is a touching portrait of Hamlet’s beloved, while *Beggars and Angels* draws musical tension from the contrast between earthly and heavenly beings.

A Debussy arrangement rounds out the spiritual program.
