Tonight, everyone comes together to celebrate the release of Liam Cagney's "Berghain Nights: A Journey Through Techno and Berlin Club Culture."
"A deeply thrilling book" – Wendy Erskine
In his literary debut, Cagney takes his audience on an insightful and exhilarating tour of some of this city's most popular clubs, exploring what it means to take clubbing seriously as a culture.
"Berghain Nights" is a blend of essay and memoir and features interviews with prominent artists such as Ellen Allien, Rrose, Luke Slater, Eris Drew, and Function, as well as other figures from Berlin's nightlife scene and techno history.
From the eccentric parties of the KitKat Club to the industrial gloom of Tresor, from the queer garden of Button to the gay psychedelia of Cocktail d'Amore, "Berghain Nights" not only captures the excitement of Berlin's clubs but also explores how such spaces can help you find your true self.
Liam Cagney is an Irish writer who has been called "the chronicler of the country's nightclubs" by The Irish Times. His work appears in the Guardian, the Spectator, TLS, and DJ Mag, among others.
His fiction has been nominated for the White Review Short Story Prize, and he has been awarded an Arts Council of Ireland Emerging Writers Fellowship. He is the author of the scholarly monograph "Gérard Grisey and Spectral Music: Composition in the Information Age" (Cambridge University Press, 2024).
Jonny Tiernan is a DJ and editor-in-chief of “The Berliner,” Berlin’s leading cultural magazine and Germany’s largest English-language magazine.
