120 years of the Berlin Oratorio Choir
The Berlin Oratorio Choir performed the Missa solemnis in 1963 on the occasion of his 60th birthday. On the occasion of his 120th anniversary in the next decade, it seems appropriate to present Beethoven's late work again as a kind of "birthday present" in a long-standing tradition.
For this concert, the ensemble strives for historically informed performance practice. It would like to approximate the original sound of the Missa solemnis as much as possible by taking into account the artistic means of its creation. An orchestra with “classical” (old) instruments was invited as a guest. Concerto Brandenburg's instruments are played at pitch 435, which is a quarter tone lower than usual.
