In cooperation with Ticket B - Experience architecture

When Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius was commissioned to plan a housing estate in West Berlin, the signs were pointing to a new beginning: the ideas of modernism - as we find them in the nearby Hufeisensiedlung - were to be implemented on a large scale as a satellite city in the south of Berlin.

Here, too, the motto of "light, air and sun" was to be implemented with modern urban planning, modern technologies and modern infrastructure instead of backyards and heating smoke.

The guided tour sheds light on the diverse aspects of the ambitious urban development, highlights contradictions in planning and implementation and delves into the current situation on site.

The architectural walk leads from the 30-storey residential tower through wide green spaces, via public buildings such as schools and churches, to contemporary architecture: the Berlin architecture firm AFF has added a recently opened project to the post-war modernist buildings in the form of the "Center for Language and Movement".

The tour includes an exclusive visit to the panorama room in the Idealhochhaus with a view of Gropiusstadt.
