University as a Site of Resistance: The Iranian Student Movement of the 1960s and 1970s in Berlin | Mit: Sanaz Azimipour und Gästen.
For decades, Berlin has been more than just a place of arrival for many Iranian migrants and exiles. The city became a political epicenter – from the protests against the Shah in 1967 to the conflicts surrounding the Mykonos attacks. Berlin's topography remains interwoven with these struggles for justice, dignity, and resistance.
Marked by displacement and repression, however, this history is fragile and barely part of official memory – neither in Iran nor in Germany. It lives on primarily in narratives: as a living, vulnerable archive of the diaspora.
This series brings these suppressed stories into sharp focus – both politically and personally. Based on oral history interviews, objects, photographs, and video fragments, it traces life in Berlin between 1970 and 2000, exploring continuities, ruptures, and the significance of memory as a political practice.
The program is accompanied by an exhibition (April 19–27 in the Sternschuppen) and four events in the Red Salon, each focusing on a specific historical battle.
