Barbara Cuesta & Band
Barbara Cuesta is a singer-songwriter whose career spans from indie-pop beginnings with a major-label contract—her first German album was released in 2005—to theater music and her second English-language album, *Shine* (2011). Over time, she has become a self-assured artist who critically reflects on her place in society: “I’ve grappled intensively with questions of origin, my family’s migration history, and my privileges as a white person with access to education and financial support.”
Her current album, *Euforia*, embodies a politically conscious, intersectional approach that emphasizes high-quality production and collaboration. Everyone involved is queer and/or has a history of migration. *Euforia* asks not only what is being said, but also: Who is speaking?
The track “A Head Will Roll” from *Euforia* was selected for the Berlin Music Commission’s 2022 *Listen to Berlin* compilation series. Barbara also founded Santinanes Records—named after her family’s home village in Spain—thereby underscoring her independent, artist-driven approach.
On July 12, she’ll perform her songs with Simon Unterberg on bass and Aidan Keith Lowe on drums.
Her longtime musical collaborator b.deutung—also known as the Köpenicker Stadtstreicher—is sure to accompany a song or two on the cello as well.
