An introduction to the fascinating world of crustaceans—the oldest living organisms on Earth.

Ancient crustaceans get their name because they have lived on Earth for hundreds of millions of years—long before dinosaurs roamed the planet. Many people are familiar with ancient crustaceans like triops or brine shrimp from experiment and breeding kits. But even the common water fleas found in our local waters are relatives of these living fossils.

On our guided tour, we’ll set out to track down these fascinating creatures. We’ll start with an introductory talk about the animals’ appearance, lifestyle, and where they’re found. We’ll learn what makes ancient crustaceans so special.

Afterward, we’ll head out together into Spreepark to search for water fleas. We’ll examine the animals we find more closely under magnification.

In addition, live specimens of other ancient crustacean species will be available for us to observe and identify.
