Concerti - Scarlatti & Avison | Akamus' Autumn Festival
On 3 Saturdays in October, the internationally acclaimed Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin presents gripping Baroque music with wonderful soloists such as the Italian soprano Roberta Mameli, the Akamus oboist Xenia Löffler and concertmasters Bernhard Forck and Georg Kallweit.
Charles Avison's gripping instrumental arrangements of harpsichord sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti are among the finest outcome of the Scarlatti fever in Baroque London. Rarely heard, however, are the Six Concertos by Domenico's father Alessandro. The little instrumental music he wrote is a real treasure: string music at its finest, sometimes surprisingly intimate.
