Outdoor Performance by Harun Morrison in the frame of Tanznacht Berlin 2025: Vocal Affairs

In the film “Nostalgia“ (1983) directed by Andrei Tarkovsky, a late scene features a writer, who is tasked with crossing an empty, ancient thermal pool with a lighted candle as an act of faith. The candle is blown out on multiple attempts, he keeps trying.

“After Nostalgia” invites a self-organizing group of people rather than a single person to carry a lit candle across a nearby square, collectively using their bodies to shield the flame from the wind.

This communal effort to protect something fragile offers a metaphorical action through which to consider our relationship to ecological networks.
