Weihnachtsbasar im Lichthof des Auswärtigen Amts (Christmas bazaar in the atrium of the Federal Foreign Office)

Christmas Market in Berlin on 8 and 9 December 2023

A festive trip around the world in the heart of Berlin – drop by.

This year the Förderkreis Eine Welt im Auswärtigen Amt e.V. once again invites you to the Weihnachtsbasar im Lichthof des Auswärtigen Amts in Mitte.
You will soon realise that this is no ordinary Christmas market. Here you can discover fancy, exotic, new, old, trivial, kitschy, beautiful and unusual souvenirs from all over the world that you won’t find anywhere else in Berlin.

At Christmastime in 1978 an initiative from young Federal Foreign Office employees, who wanted to get involved in development policy, arose by means of various donation collections. Two years later, the non-profit association Projekthilfe Dritte Welt (Third World Project Aid) was founded. In 2000 it was renamed Förderkreis Eine Welt im Auswärtigen Amt e.V. (One World Sponsor Group at the Foreign Office). The proceeds from the Weihnachtsbasar im Lichthof des Auswärtigen Amts go to worldwide projects to help developing countries help themselves.

Unique gift ideas from all over the world

In the cosy atmosphere of the Christmas-lit atrium of the Federal Foreign Office, you can browse for beautiful and unique gift ideas from all continents. It is not Christmas decorations or the products of local artisans that are sold here, but beautiful and curious things that diplomatic life abroad has to offer. The diplomats of the Federal Foreign Office donate unusual and extraordinary, new and old, trivial and rare, kitschy and beautiful objects from all over the world, such as pictures, vases, jewellery and textiles. However, not only the souvenirs from all over the world are for sale at the bazaar, but also gifts that the Federal Foreign Minister or the staff of the Federal Foreign Office have received in the past.

Mulled wine, stollen and a children’s choir

During your visit you can enjoy mulled wine, children’s punch and stollen fruit bread and listen to the performance of the Foreign Office's a capella choir. Families can look forward to a small children's programme.
