100 portraits of former political prisoners of the East German State Security Service
An exhibition by the photographer André Wagenzik, who has portrayed one hundred former political prisoners of the GDR. The photographs put a face to people who were persecuted because of their desire for freedom and their political convictions, and serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
“Paying tribute to these people, who were imprisoned because of their convictions, sends an important message, in my view. It reminds us that freedom and democracy can never be taken for granted,” explains Evelyn Zupke, the Bundestag’s Commissioner for Victims of the SED.
